According to official statistics, 86 young Filipinos aged 19 and below tested positive for HIV, mainly due to unprotected sex last January 2023. One of the causes of alarming increase in numbers is the limited guidance in sexual education for both parents and children and access to sexual health services.
Limited access to sexual health eduction has always been one of our nation's concerns, which also results not just in HIV and STI cases, but also in the continuous surge of teenage pregnancy.
To help halt and reverse the rise of these cases, we should promote SAFER SEX through a comprehensive sexuality education program for all and improve access to adolescent sexual and reproductive health services, including offering free condoms and PrEP for all.
Let us do this now for the new generation to ensure a healthier future for all.
